Amosun soft-pedals on defection plans, may settle for Dapo Abiodun.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun might have resolved to let the sleeping dog lie and broker peace within the Ogun State chapter of All Progressives Congress(APC), amidst the brouhaha surrounding various elective positions’ party tickets.
The incumbent APC governor of Ogun state, who had earlier plans to defect to Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) after being denied the privilege of presenting his anointed candidate – Adekunle Akinlade to the party as the governorship flagbearer and successor might have quashed defection plans.
There is high speculation within the camp of the governor suggesting he might have decided to support the decision of the National Working Committee, and negotiate various elective and selective positions ahead of 2019 general election.
Sources within the government unveiled that Governor Ibikunle Amosun has reduced the pace of earlier defection plans, with the body language denoting the governor might be considering working with Dapo Abiodun as the flagbearer of APC at 2019 guber polls.
Governor Amosun, in company of his counterparts from Ondo and Ekiti had recently visited President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss some pertinent issues, deliberately kept away from public ears. Sources within the presidency believes Amosun might be having hard times showing an act of disloyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari, as PMB bids again for 2019 presidency.
However, the seized 17.3billion Paris Club Refund meant for Ogun state, allegedly seized by the federal government out of fear of being used to fund a new party after Amosun’s defection plans have been released. The state through the Commissioner for Finance, Adewale Oshinowo confirmed the receipt of the money.
According to the source who yet pleaded anonymity, the Paris Club Refund was released after Governor Amosun promised to truncate his defection plans and work with APC at the 2019 general polls.
“The decision of the embattled governor is yet to be officially announced, but leaving All Progressives Congress (APC) for any other party might be a news the general public shouldn’t expect from Governor Ibikunle Amosun.” Source added.
