Breaking! Five Die After Collision in UNILORIN Road Accident.
At least, five persons have reportedly died after two vehicles had a collision within the campus of the University of Ilorin late Monday.
NPO Reports gathered Tuesday morning that a Lexus car and a small commercial bus collided at about 11pm leading to the death of the occupants.
A source at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State said the owner of the commercial bus and his wife and a child died while three other people including the driver of the Lexus car died on the spot.
The scene of the accident had caused traffic snarl in the area along the road leading to the main gate of the institution.
“We noticed that many people going into the campus from the Tanke area were stranded this morning and when we asked, we were told that there was a terrible accident in the campus. When we got there, the vehicles already that only few could have made it alive,” a non-teaching staff of the university said Tuesday morning.
Our correspondent gathered that the road leading out of the university has become a dangerous one with the high speed of many of the drivers on the route.
“Many of the students with those cars have no regards for traffic rules and speed limits. In spite of the speed breakers constructed by the university, you would still see them driving recklessly on the road. Just yesterday, a student’s car summersaulted near one of the hostels and fellow students had to help him carry it up again. It is that bad,” another staff of the institution said.
Those who spoke with the NPO Reports said the university authorities must be urgent in its action against reckless driving before more damage is done.
Already, images and videos of the accident scene are circulating among the students.
Many are trying to identify if the victims in the Lexus car are students of the institution or just visitors.
As at the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the university.
The telephone number of the Spokesman of the institution, Alhaji Kunle Akogun, was not reachable when our correspondent called.
