Residents of Elewure Community in Ede South Local Government Area of Osun state on Saturday trooped out en-mass to witness the commissioning of a 33kv transformer.
The 33kv transformer facilitated and commissioned by the council executive chairman, Hon Afolabi Lukman (Abere Soose ), ended the 400-year blackout of Elewure Community.
Speaking during the commissioning, Afolabi congratulated residents of the community for the dividend of democracy brought to their community.
He charged them to make proper, judicious use of the transformer and make sure it was not vandalized by intruders.
The council boss, who told them not to be surprised that his administration has started fulfilling its campaign promises, said he is committed to keying into Governor Ademola Adeleke’s people-oriented policies.
Speaking on the Yes/No chairmen who are parading themselves as the legal chairmen, Afolabi told Elewure residents that they are mere vigilantes.
According to Afolabi, “It’s clear that they are illegal and illicit; had it been they are legal, they would have been here to commission this project.
“While they were in council (sacked yes/no chairmen), they couldn’t afford a chair to the extent that they were carrying out duties under the trees; that’s how terrible their life remained,” Afolabi added.
Acknowledging the leadership support of the former chairman of the council and party leader, Elder Sunday Akanfe Atidade, Afolabi said he has consistently demonstrated integrity, even after completing his tenure as Executive Chairman of Ede South several years ago, proving that once a leader, always a leader.
Elder Atidade thanked Afolabi and expressed his gratitude to the People’s Governor for the remarkable development in the area, noting that as a native of Oloki/Akoda ward, he’s particularly pleased with the progress.
He urged Afolabi to continue striving for excellence and deliver more impactful projects.
Speaking on behalf of the Elewure Community, the Baale of Elewure, High Chief Busari Ismail Babatunde, and Baba Alukoro lauded Governor Ademola Adeleke’s performances and pledged their continued support for his administration.
The duo confessed that this is the first time they will be witnessing electricity supply in the town since its establishment over 400 years ago.
