Fed University of Health Sciences Ila-Orangun Crisis: Reps Urges VC to Reinstate Sacked Professor of Anatomy

โ€ฆAppeals to all parties to sheath their swords

The House of Representatives Committee on University Education has intervened in the crisis at Federal University of Health Sciences Ila-Orangun, Osun State and urged the Vice Chancellor and entire management team of the institution to embrace peace in the interest of the school and entire country.

In a meeting of the committee with the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Akeem Olawale Lasisi and Prof. Tijani Ahmad Adekilekun at National Assembly on Thursday, Chairman of the House Committee on University Education, Hon. Abubakar Hassan Fulata, called on the VC and entire management of the university to reinstate Prof. Adekilekun immediately.

The sack of Prof Tijani Ahmad Adekilekun of the Department of Anatomy in February, 2024; led to protest by other lecturers in the university resulting to disruptions of academic activities and tension.

However, Fulata led committee on University Education resolved the crisis and tasked all parties to sheath their sword and allow peace to reign.

The Vice Chancellor earlier in his submission claimed that Adekilekun was sacked over gross misconduct by moving students with high CGPA from other programmes to MBBS Programme.

However, Adekilekun denied the allegation and stated that he was been maltreated and persecuted for no reasonable course.

Adekilekun said the perceived factor for his maltreatment was his aspiration to become the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the university. He said immediately Prof. Lasisi was appointed VC, he became loyal to him but despite his loyalty, things have not been going on well with him in the institution.

The committee noted that the Federal University of Health Sciences Ila-Orangun is a new university and has no council yet. The Members noted that it is improper to sack a lecturer without a disciplinary council let alone sacking a professor for a trivial issue.

The committee after much deliberation directed the VC to reinstate him and he did not object.
