RAUF AREGBESOLA AN UNUSUAL ADMINISTRATOR.
“The first duty of government is the protection of life and properties” declared Thomas Jefferson.
“The chief purpose of government is to protect life and properties of citizenry. Abandon that and you have abandoned all,” said Jefferson.
It is not difficult to phantom the reason why Jefferson attached such primacy to the right to life,own and enjoy property. The right to life is the first right without which no other right can exist. The right to speak as one pleases, the right to preach, the right to worship as one chooses or associate with those whom one prefers, all depend on the right to life. Without protecting the right to life, all other rights are meaningless.
To enhance security of lives and properties in the state of Osun, the innovative Symbol (Rauf Aregbesola) provided 125 patrol vehicles to security agencies such as the Army, Police, FRSC, NDLEA and the Civil Defence. Five armoured personnel carrier (APC), the first in the history of the state have been provided to fight incessant robbery attacks. Since this noble initiative, crime, especially bank robberies has reduced significantly to the barest minimum in Osun.
Osun Security Council which comprises The Nigerian Army,The Nigerian Police,Nigerian Prisons Service, The Civil Defence,Nigerian Immigration Services,Federal Roads Safety Corps had on several occasions Commended the Rauf Aregbesola led administration for innovative idea in making security of our life and properties his priority.
Addressing journalists after one of the state security council meeting after robbery attack in Ikirun, the then Osun Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kola Sodipo, held that security agencies in the state needed to be lauded for their gallantry, utmost sense of duty and professionalism.
The Osun CP represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) ACP Jesubiyi Taiwo, stated that the police and other security agencies swiftly responded to the security challenge with superior firepower.
*__He added that the recorded success was the result of the Armoured Personnel Carriers provided the police by the state government,*__ stressing that four of the robbers were killed while four have been arrested.
The police boss assured the people of the state of its readiness to protect lives and property, maintain peace and deter any criminal activity in the state with the support enjoyed from the Rauf Aregbesola led administration.
He said: “Last Friday, armed bandits attacked three commercial banks in Ikirun, in Ifelodun Local Government area of the state, these bandits came with sophisticated weapons and explosive devices.
“ *_The police responded swiftly with superior firepower as provided by the state government_* , four of the robbers were killed while four others have been arrested. Sums of money were also recovered from the robbers.
The 5th April,2018 bank robbery incident in Offa,Kwara state where scores of lives were lost came to mind. This could have been averted if the security operatives there were adequately equipped as their Osun counterpart.
It is on record that such attempt in Osun less than two weeks after the Offa occurrence was thwarted by the security operatives because of the availability of sophisticated equipments provided by the focused Rauf.
Almighty God! Ruler of heaven and earth I beseech thee to continue to secure the life and properties of Rauf Aregbesola and I pray that he be saddled with higher responsibilities in his future live. Amen
