Shariah courts are just like an arbitration court for Muslims who are willing to subject themselves to them for conflict resolutions.
Shariah courts are not constitutionally empowered to sentence anyone to jail terms. Their injunctions are not enforceable.
Shariah courts only perform advisory roles and services. They advise, mediate and adjudicate among couples on matrimonial bickerings and arbitrate among business partners.
These are what shariah courts are all about. They don’t cut hands or legs. Shariah courts have not killed or beheaded anyone. They are just like some radio programmes (So daa bẹẹ, Kokoro Alate etc).
Furthermore, it is never mandatory on any Nigerian Muslim to seek redress in the shariah courts, let alone Christians. You can only approach them on personal will and volition. They are not forcing anyone.
Shariah has nothing to do with Christians or Ifa or Ogun worshippers. They have nothing to do with it. They are at liberty to submit or not to submit themselves to shariah courts, unlike the conventional courts that we are all compelled by the constitution to submit to.
Therefore, if I may ask, what is the animosity and fuss against shariah courts all about from some certain quarters? It is not about them. It is about willing Muslims. What concerns CAN about shariah courts? What is the problem of Gani Adams about shariah courts. Dey your dey and we dey our dey.
CAN opposed the establishment of Jaiz Bank (a private entity for that matter). They opposed SUKUK, which is like a bond to source more funds for Nigeria. They opposed hijab in government schools. Must they oppose anything that has Arabic name or Islam? Why this hatred?
More unfortunately, some state governors in the Southwest are joining the bandwagon against Muslims. They have the temerity and audacity to prohibit it. They even did it gleefully without any iota of respect for Muslims in their states.
How dare Governor Seyi Makinde stop Oyo State Muslims from establishing shariah courts. Oyo is predominantly a Muslim state. He doesn’t have any modicum of respect for the Muslim inhabitants. This is getting too much of him. Is it because we are just looking at him.
What an audacious insult! I get infuriated when I see people displaying intolerance and gallivanting in profound bigotry. If they don’t know, why can’t they inquire. Governors Makinde and Dapo Abiodun did bad, to say the least.
It becomes preposterous, nauseating and annoying when you are rubbing it on our faces that you can deny us our rights, and there’s nothing we can do. I swear, we can do a lot. We will employ all legal means to seek redress.
Look, I, Adejare Ibrahim, will not go to any shariah court, but I will not allow you insult my sensibility. We have equal rights in this country. Therefore, I support shariah courts, 💯 %.
