UPDATE ON CORONAVIRUS
As directed by the Federal Minister of Interior, RAUF AREGBESOLA
Nigeria Corrections has taken preemptive measures to avoid spread of Covid-19 in Custodial Centers across the country.
As of 21/3/2020, there is no single case of Corona Virus amongst the Staff and Inmates.
The Service is in touch with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Ministry of Health and other relevant Agencies as part of efforts in responding to, and preparing for screening of Covid19.
Whilst still allowing visits at the yard, every form of body contact between inmates and visitors have been barred no matter their relationship.
Also, visits by sick visitors are hereby disallowed till further notice.
Staff must avoid body contact with inmates in the course of duty, however, if it cannot be avoided, the staff must wear hand gloves and face mask.
Any group visit that would involve gathering of inmates together for any form of ceremony is hereby put on hold till further notice. The public especially NGOs and religious organisations should please take note of this.
Medical and health officers are at alert always and will withdraw any sick inmate for screening and possible isolation at the designated isolation unit in each Custodial Centre.
