In a recent public announcement, the Palace of the Oluwo of Iwoland has clarified the proper and official title of the revered monarch. Going forward, the Oluwo will be addressed exclusively as “His Imperial Majesty” (HIM), a distinction that sets him apart from other traditional rulers in Yorubaland.
Unlike many other stools, which were upgraded from Baaleship to kingship, the Oluwo’s stool has been a natural crown from inception, directly linked to the bloodline of Oduduwa, the founder of the Yoruba race. The Oluwo commands great respect as a viceroy of none, standing as the sole Paramount Ruler of Iwoland.
With over 30 crowned kings under his authority, the Oluwo’s position as an imperial monarch reflects the historical and cultural significance of his title. The palace has emphasized that any correspondence or address not using “His Imperial Majesty” will be disregarded.
The statement reads: “No General will accept being called a Sergeant, and no Doctor would respond to the title of Nurse.”
It is a matter of respect and tradition for the stool of Oluwo, which holds a unique place in Yorubaland’s history.
The public is urged to take note of this important distinction to ensure proper respect is accorded to the Oluwo of Iwoland in all official and informal communications.
