As Osun governorship election 2026 is getting nearer,a lot of things would determine where the pendulum of victory would likely swing in 2026 governorship election contest, both within the ruling party PDP and the main opposition party now APC.
I wouldn’t want to discuss the ruling party PDP for now but will be focusing on the main opposition party and the preparations towards 2026 governorship election which is fast approaching. Fast approaching in the sense that we are already in the second half of year 2024,so this year is gone already. By next year 2025,more political alignments and re-alignments would be unfolding and the road to 2026 will look more clearer.
Within the main opposition party, there have been divisions among the political gladiators which up till now has not been addressed by those concerned and thereby giving the ruling party edge over the opposition party for now.
It is not likely there is going to be any reconciliation among the progressive gladiators which would have put the main opposition party in the vantage position to wrestle power with the ruling party which have been trying to consolidate hold on to power by mending fences while the main opposition party APC continue polarizing everyday by day.
Before the last governorship election of July 16th 2022 which its second year anniversary is coming up few days now,the crisis that eventually dislodged APC which was the ruling party then started like child play and later consumed the party and turned the progressive party to opposition party.
One would expect the party leaders to have readjusted and addressed the issues that chased them out of power and reposition the party very well against next election but alas, the crisis continue to degenerate more than expected.
POLITICS OF DEFECTIONS WITHIN SAME POLITICAL PARTY:
Under democratic settings, there is a room for caucuses within the same political party and this supposed to be tool in strengthening the party as both caucuses are expected to be working towards same goals which is recruiting new members to the party while fighting for political power and positions once the Constitution of the party is allowed to be their guiding principles. But in a situation whereby there is no respect for the Constitution of the party, then lawlessness becomes the order of the day and eventually the party will head towards the rock.
The only thing working against the main opposition party in Osun (APC) for now is lack cohesion and respect for the Constitution of the party which gives rooms for internal democracy, we can not continue doing things same old ways are be expecting positive results. What worked perfectly for us in 2014 might not work for us in 2018 and that of 2018 might as well not work for us in 2022.
In a political party where we have a lot of political gladiators,it should be give and take always if indeed we want to achieve positive results.
In 2014 in Osun state when Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was preparing for his second term election,a lot of political alignments and re-alignments took place where we had office swapping just to achieve desire results.
Late Asiwaju of Ede land and the first executive governor of Osun state, senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke crossed carpeted from PDP then to the ruling party in the state, which is APC and he was given Osun West senatorial ticket which was at that time held by senator Mudasir Hussain from Ejigbo while the federal house of representatives ticket been held by Hon Ajagbe from Ede was used as swapping for the people of Ejigbo from whom a senatorial ticket was taken.
Today, what do we have in Osun APC,segregation politics and dichotomy which did not work well for the party in 2022 and things fell apart.
Today we are having defections from one camp to another within the same party which supposed to work together as a team having lost 2022 electoral contests because of same reason.
WHAT MAY LIKELY BE THE CONSEQUENCES OF DIVISIONS WITHIN MAIN OPPOSITION PARTY IN 2026.
Should APC failed again to put its house in order and become one like its used to be before the emergence of Oyetola, who introduced segregational politics, two things may likely happen, one is that the breakaway faction of the party may likely form or join one of the existing political parties, not PDP,and join force with the people of like minds to wrestle power with the ruling party PDP which is sure will re-present the incumbent governor Senator Ademola Adeleke while the APC too may re-present Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola to be their flag bearer again in 2026.
Now what would likely be the outcome of all these?
The battle would be between the ruling party PDP and the third force which i can assure anyone reading this that would gain more grounds than the main opposition party APC because of the personalities of the gladiators and more people that would join the group before 2026 while APC would take third position if Oyetola happened to be the flag bearer of the party.
APC would get more votes if presented another candidate aside Oyetola which majority of those deceiving the minister of Marine and blue economy too know for sure but, because of the fear of not wanting to incur the wrath of Mr President who is the cousin of Oyetola, they are all playing along. Even those that adopted Oyetola as the leader of APC in Osun recently know within themselves that he is not worthy of being leader, but they are all worshipping him because of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who majority of them are looking up to one way or the other to get either federal appointment or contracts.
Let’s ask ourselves, with what would Oyetola use to campaign for his purported second coming in Osun?
Is it the civil servants he refused to pay them their backlogs of salaries and promotions or what?
The Osun Youths which he failed to empower when he was governor for four years until tail end of his first term that he hurriedly employed through O’YES which he would have used them for campaign if he had not stopped the programmed Halfway? Or the political class he has already factionalized?
Take this to the bank,Oyetola can not fly in Osun again,no matter the strategies and tactics employed to market him,he has always been an unpopular candidate since 2018 and when he had the opportunities to redeem himself, he was busy fighting his predecessor on whose popularity he won 2018 governorship narrowly.
THE ONLY SURE BET FOR APC?
Let the political gladiators come together and work together as a team.
Let APC present another sellable and widely acceptable candidate preferably from Osun West.
