EKURO OLOJA & ITS TRENDING IN IGBAJO.
In some parts of Yoruba land,some conditions must be fulfilled before one can enthroned the kingship position.
Sometime in the past in a particular town when the King died (Oba waja) and it is time for another one to be installed, two king’s aspirants sprang up jostling for the position,and there’s a laid down procedure for such, as the aspirants must produce what is called EKURO OLOJA (A particular Object) and this Ekuro Oloja can only be found naturally in the bush, and the two aspirants set out for it in the bush.
After searching for it in the bush without success by the two aspirants, one of the aspirants set out to cut corner and he collaborated with some King makers and they successfully moulded one fake Ekuro Oloja that looks like original one, and he brought it to the town and the celebrations started for him to be installed as the new King, and he was installed accordingly, just before his installation, some of the King makers raised voices after looking at the object deeply and found out that it is artificial one, but others who has compromised rejected their observations and discovery.
Now the new King as emerged in the town.
After some long time,the second King aspirants is yet to return to town, therefore forcing the town people to be suspecting his demise in his efforts to locate original object.
Luckily for him he got it and he return to the town and his own object is found to be the real Ekuro Oloja, because the object has a specific function to perform in the palace to show its originality which the previous one earlier presented could not perform. And the King through fake process was thrown out of palace and the ORIGINAL KING was installed through traditional legal processes.
This story is exactly what played out in IGBAJO, a beautiful town in the state of Osun Nigeria.
